ROTARY- GOAL SETTING & SELECTION FOR CLUB LEADERS

Learning Objectives

1. Understand the importance of setting goals and the characteristics of an effective goal.
2. Understand the importance of building a club organization based on the needs and goals of the club.
3. Identify the skill sets needed by Rotarians to serve as effective club leaders.
4. Prepare the club’s leadership team for the coming year.

1. Helps measure progress and create effective practices
2. Motivates members
3. Creates a sense of ownership and generates interest

Characteristics of an Effective Goal
* Shared
* Measurable
* Challenging
* Achievable
* Time specific

How to Determine Goals

* Brainstorm.
* Speak with community members.
* Contact district leadership.
* Assess the club’s current conditions.
* Consult with other clubs.
* Review the Presidential Citation.

Strategies for Achieving Goals

* Develop action steps.
* Define who is responsible for each step.
* Establish a timeline for each step.
* Determine criteria for measuring progress.
* Use resources and tools from club and district levels and RI.
* Evaluate progress to learn from experience.

Basic Committee Considerations

* Consider club goals for the coming year.
* Determine how to involve new members.
